Half day today! Weather is fine and clear but very windy gusts up to 40mph so John the ferryman decided in the interests of safety that we could only do one trip across the Kyle and onto the Cape then he would have to cancel the ferry for the rest of the day.
The first couple of days going solo on the bus were interesting but alot of concentration was required and I had to slow down to point out the places of interest. My first paying customers were a group of ladies from Cumbernauld who made life so easy for me. They chatted away amongst themselves and listened when I pointed something out to them, this gave me the chance to get on with the driving.
On the route is a really tight bridge where there is a margin of 4 inches when driving across so I have to slow right down and straighten the bus up to get across. The ladies obviously clocked how close it was and on getting across it safely on the return journey one of them christened it "Blood Pressure Bridge"! How right she is!
All the people I've met so far are really nice and want to know how I managed to find such a good job. I mean going to work on a boat for a start although on Tuesday we only just got off the peninsular as the wind got up and I got a good soaking as the waves came over the boat! I've now learnt to carry waterproof trousers and face the back of the dinghy.
Jo has continued to explore and visited the Fish and Meat vans that visit Durness on a Wednesday. Fresh scallops for tea and Aberdeen Angus burgers to follow, next on the menu is Lobster!!!
A couple of photos Jo took of a distant me by the bus on the ferry landing and the water supply for the village!!
I've been following your blog and it sounds like you may have found the 'perfect job' !
ReplyDeleteThe scenery looks great and what a lifestyle!
We're off to the South of France later today c/w bikes. Albi is our destination and looking at the forecast it looks like being 30+ degrees for most of the next 2 weeks.
Regrettably and as is the case these days, work is never far away and I'll be in touch with the office on a regular basis as we have some large projects on the go at the moment.
I'm looking forward to your next instalment already !
